Oh, and another way to help has happened recently. All of you writers on my list, I am putting together an anthology of short stories with a theme of young love/first times. It's going to be titled "First Blush" and will be published as an e-book through Dark Roast Press. Details can be found here
For those of you interested in the progress Emily is making....
Barb and Paul, two amazing people, have decided that Emily can continue to live with them indefinitely, and we have cleaned out their Mother-In-Law apartment above their garage for Emily and her son.
We have populated that apartment with second hand furniture, including a crib, playpen, changing table, etc. Donations have come in that have bought enough clothes to get Emily through the pregnancy and she has a couple of gift cards we are helping her use to get baby things. The money raised in this auction will be used to finish setting up the nursery.
We continue to look for her family (brother and a reported Aunt), but it is slow going.
Emily is getting some assistance from the state. She is also getting her OB care for free. Next on our list is getting her some counseling. She starts parenting classes this weekend. and has started on her GED catch up.
She has also found a couple friends, including another young mother who lives a few houses down and has a one year old.
All in all, it has been a far better outcome than I expected at first.
